An Ancient Sacred Mantra from the Vedic Traditions

I’ve been a fan of this powerful mantra from the very first time I heard it. For over 20 years it has called me back again and again deeper and deeper into it’s beauty and power. It’s an invocation to the light which illuminates all things, to enlighten and en-brighten our hearts, minds and our world.

Gayatri is personified as a Goddess with 5 faces and 10 hands who is described as the Mother of the Vedas. This mantra and the Goddess contain and embody the whole of the wisdom of the Vedas , and can help us to understand them.

AUM BHOOR BHUWAH SWAHA,
TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM
BHARGO DEVASAYA DHEEMAHI
DHIYO YO NAHA PRACHODAYAT

Translation:

” We Meditate upon the highest brilliance of the source of all life, That this divine light may propel our minds from the material to the subtle realms of existence “

Chant the Gayatri in multiples of 3, 9 or 12 and do your best to learn the correct pronunciations tonal and resonance. Sanskrit is a self-revealing language of resonance, which means it teaches you the meaning by chanting it correctly. Always consider your intention, what you put in directly effects what you get back.

Learning and practising this mantra regularly is a great way to fully experience the power of the Gayatri and the gifts it offers. Even just listening to this mantra can bestow many benefits and blessings. I have included some links you can listen to as study resources at the end.
