You Do not Have to Be Good

You were made to move, Your body and brain have evolved in order for you to move through this world and find the nourishment to live. What if you didn’t need any other purpose than just to live? “You don’t have to be Good”, To Live is no small thing!

Life is movement, stars explode, planets spin, grass grows and the flower opens. One moment at time, one step, one breath, this breath, again and again, fresh, untainted life affirming, You are here. You are meant to be here, and life loves you, right down deep inside each cell.

This body that is yours, is the product of billions of years of cosmic process and biological evolution. It does not have to look good, appear young, be thin, or productive to have worth. Your body is a living expression of the wisdom of life. The eyes that read this, the hands that write and the hearts that beat are all dancing together in complex coherence that ripples through the whole of existence.

Living systems must change and grow to evolve. Human bodies are designed for movement and had to be conditioned to sit still in a chair. Modern conveniences and tendencies towards comfort mean many people are missing out on the full benefits of regular and varied movement vital for good health. Just like food nourishes the body, so does movement.

Well documented benefits of regular movement include

  • circulation improves, which improves digestions and metabolism, waste removal and weight management
  • improved Metabolism also helps maintain health blood sugars and balance hormone and endocrine functions
  • increased mental clarity, memory, concentration and creativity
  • Enhanced Mood through release of neurotransmitters and resilience.

You don’t have to be good at it! Life isn’t about being good already. We don’t have to be good at anything to enjoy it. It doest have to look good, fit a certain standard of speed or complexity to bestow benefits. Don’t think you have to already be flexible, co-ordinated, fit or strong to get started. It’s not about getting it right, or reaching some distant goal to be successful. You just have to show up, lean in to your own experience of the body Move with it. Moving kindly and curiously you start the conversation where you are.

Whoever you are, however you are, your body has carried you here through thick and thin, and it deserves your compassionate care and respect!

In My Classes I encourage you to:

  • explore movement to unwind tensions and release inefficient holding patterns.
  • Cultivate movement patterns that nourish and affirm the profundity of your moving breathing body.
  • Make space to recognise and celebrate both our shared experiences and unique distinctness.
  • To get real about where it hurts and how you can work with around and through whatever is arising for you.
  • Rewire brain and Body to express more fluently the miracle of living that you already are.

Just by being alive you are miraculous, I don’t want you to just believe me, I want you to look inside and see how it’s true.
To live is no small thing AND you don’t have to be good at it to enjoy it!

Self care isn’t all bubble baths and cake, it’s the nitty gritty sometimes messy blood and guts of acknowledging the full spectrum of our humanity.

It’s time to become passionate again about the many gifts and challenges of the human experience. To be open-minded about who and how we are in any given moment, of the changing flux that is living. Let’s together explore Spines that stretch and curl, lungs that fill and empty in perpetual patterns of ebb and flow. The earth deeply needs our Hands that hold, feet that stand, hips that sway, open minds and beating hearts.

“You do not have to be good, you just have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves”
